"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
-Winston Churchill
Send or Go? Who says you can't do both?
I grew up in Ottawa where I accepted Christ at an early age. In my College years, God began to speak to me about how I could share my love for Him with others.
When I graduated I began working for Cisco Systems at their Kanata branch (a suburb of Ottawa) as a software engineer.Believing my role was to “send,” I made a lot of money as a software engineer to give away to missions.
But then God called me to be a Wycliffe Bible Translator, so I thought my role changed to “go.” Friends and family thought I was crazy, especially as asking others for money is the worst thing a Chinese first born male could do. But God has a sense of humour.
I enrolled with Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) - Wycliffe’s training arm in Canada - in the Master of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis program. The first half of a Masters of Applied Linguistics and Biblical Exegesis degree is seminary studies. You have to write papers according to a strict format, suitable for journal publication. I got so fed up with spending more time formatting papers than writing them, that I wrote a computer program to do it for me. Thus, EazyPaper was born, and has been sold in every continent in the world except Antarctica. We have since expanded to other products ( www.eazyresume.com), and partnered with other institutions such as CanIL.
God has blessed the company to the point where it can send my family as well as other missionaries to the field. We’ve also started the Vision 2025 endowment fund at CanIL, which will fund Vision 2025 scholarships at CanIL as well as support home missionaries with Wycliffe.
Now I know that my role is to “send” and “go”; who says you can’t do both?
