Immigration Issues
Qualified international students are admitted to TWU on the same basis as Canadian students. However, international students should note that:
- The Canadian Immigration authorities will only grant a student visa to an international student if he or she has been accepted as a full-time student in a particular program. Full-time status requires a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit per semester, or in the case of a thesis student 40 hours of study per week. Further information can be acquired from the regional Canadian Consulate or by writing to the:
Canadian Bureau of International Education
#408 - 151 Slater St
Ottawa, ON
K1P 5H3
CANADA - An international student may be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have the results sent directly to TWU. Information concerning TOEFL can be obtained from:
Educational Testing Service
Box 899
Princeton, New Jersey 08541
USA - A minimum TOEFL score of 600 is normally required. English as a Second Language training is also available through TWU. Such English training will normally lengthen the time necessary for completion of the degree.
- A letter of acceptance will not be sent by the University until the applicant has provided evidence of sufficient funds to support him or her during the first full year of resident studies. In addition all international students must be fully covered by medical insurance. A certificate of insurance must be produced at registration.
Students may transfer into the program up to 18 semester hours from other institutions. The registrar and program chair will determine which courses may be transferred and from which institutions.
