The courses offered by the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) are affiliated with Trinity Western University (undergraduate studies) or the Associated Canadian Theological Schools (graduate studies). CanIL offers a year-round program. Students may earn a total of 13 semester hour credits in the summer session, and 12 or more in each of the fall and spring semesters.

There are many options for combining transfer credits (university or Bible college) and CanIL courses toward a bachelor's degree at Trinity Western University. CanIL courses can be taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts with a major in linguistics, or a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Intercultural Religious Studies. Another option is to take linguistics as one of two minors toward a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. Students may also take a minor in linguistics with any TWU bachelor's degree. CanIL credits are transferable to other institutions.

A shorter version of CanIL One (eight semester hours in six weeks) is available as part of the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate program at TWU.

Master of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis: CanIL, in cooperation with the Associated Canadian Theological Schools (ACTS), now offers the MLE degree. This is a two-year* specialized graduate degree program designed to provide a thorough knowledge of the techniques of applied linguistics and Biblical exegesis. Call or write for a full description of the MLE degree program.

The Master of Arts in Linguistics program is a two-year* graduate academic program that is strongly oriented towards field work. It prepares students to analyze and describe the linguistic structures of languages and to put previously unwritten languages into writing. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for careers in linguistics, literacy and translation. They will also be prepared to gain admission into doctoral programs in linguistics.

*The program may be completed in two years of full time study, provided that there are not additional requirements of prerequisite courses or thesis research.
