Minor in Applied Linguistics

TWU, in cooperation with the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), offers a Minor in Applied Linguistics. To earn this minor, students can take four courses during the CanIL summer session in July and August. These summer courses are also offered throughout the year.

In addition to the general requirements of Trinity Western University, 24 semester hours in Linguistics (of which at least 18 semester hours must be 300/400 level). Required courses: LING 210, 310, 330, 360, as well as COMM 302 or LING 481. Additionally, at least 9 semester hours from the following: LING 460, 470, 480, 482, 483, 484, 485, 486. Lower level courses are prerequisite to the 400 level courses.

A minor in Applied Linguistics/TESL is also available by completing the following: LING 210, 268, 305, 310, 330, 401, 410, 420 and COMM 302 or LING 481. (For EDUC majors, EDUC 368 substitutes for LING 268). In order to ALSO receive the TESL Certificate, students must complete 312 (1) and 5 semester hours of LING courses, of which at least 2 hours must be from LING 313, 314, 315, 316 or 317.
