CanIL operates a generous Financial Aid program to help students avoid, reduce or eliminate debt. Aid is available for all degree programs, training tracks, and individual Linguistics courses. Please note, however, that recipients of the TWU Torch Award or the Tyndale Employee Tuition Benefit are not eligible for CanIL Financial Aid.
Complete and submit the financial aid form by these deadlines:

Interested in language and culture? Explore the possibilities! Linguistics courses fulfill elective credit requirements for a number of TWU degree programs. As the Linguistics Department at TWU and Tyndale, CanIL (Canada Institute of Linguistics) provides cross-cultural and linguistics classes. This understanding of language and culture will broaden your worldview and better equip you for various contexts in an increasingly global community. Check with your advisor and program worksheet to see if this is an option that you should pursue.

Eligibility
- Undeclared or non-linguistics majors at TWU or Tyndale University.
- Note that TWU Torch Award recipients or Tyndale tuition benefit recipients are not eligible.
- Note that Linguistics majors or minors may apply for regular CanIL financial aid (as opposed to the Discover Language & Culture Award).

CanIL Bursary
This bursary provides financial support to all students towards the costs of tuition and living expenses.

Graduate Entrance Award
This award is available to all full-time graduate students in the MA LING or the MALT programs.

Ministry Boost Award
Students in CanIL Launch (PreLaunch) who expect soon to graduate with a BA LING, MA LING, MALT degree, or a Training Track, and who plan to join a Bible Translation organization, such as Wycliffe Bible Translators or Pioneer Bible Translators, are eligible. The award will normally be given near the beginning of the student’s second year in CanIL Launch provided there is evidence of adequate participation and progress.

Eligibility
Students who participate in CanIL Launch (PreLaunch) and expect to graduate from CanIL with a BA LING, MA LING, MALT degree, or a Training Track and who plan to join a Bible Translation organization, such as Wycliffe Bible Translators or Pioneer Bible Translators are eligible.
Amount per Award
$3,000 minimum for BA LING, MA LING or MALT degrees. The award is paid at the beginning of the second year. $1,000 per semester of a Training Track. (e.g. a two-semester track will be eligible for a $2,000 award (for a maximum of three semesters)).

Church Matching Grant
Students who participate in CanIL Launch (PreLaunch) (link) and are in a BA LING, MA LING, MALT degree, or a Training Track program are eligible to receive additional financial aid through the Church Matching Grant program.

Eligibility
Students enrolled in CanIL Launch (PreLaunch) (link) and who are either BA LING majors in the final year of their program, MA LING, or MALT degree students enrolled full-time each semester (min. 9 semester hours) for a full academic year. Training Track students must be enrolled full-time through to the completion of their program.
Students who are already members of a Bible translation organization with a previous field assignment are NOT eligible for the Church Matching Grant (however ARE eligible for the Ministry Team Matching Grant, a new program as of Fall 2020. Please see the MTMG section below.) The purpose of the Church Matching Grant is to encourage students to commence engaging with their churches as they prepare for a field assignment.
Amount per Award
1. For Masters students, up to $4,000 for the first academic year on a 1:1 matching basis (a maximum of $2,000 from sponsoring churches) and up to $8,000 for the second academic year on a 3:1 matching basis (maximum of $2,000 from sponsoring churches).
2. For BA students, up to $4,000 in their third and fourth years on a 1:1 matching basis (a maximum of $2,000 from sponsoring churches)
3. For Training Track students, up to $2,000 on a one-time 1:1 matching basis (a maximum of $1,000 from sponsoring churches).

Church Matching Grant forms and brochures are sent to eligible students enrolled in CanIL Launch (PreLaunch).
- For BA or MA students, the church portion of the CMG funds must be received no later than January 31st of the applicable academic year.
- For Training Track students, the church portion of the CMG funds must be received no later than the add/drop deadline of their last semester of study. Late applications will not be accepted.
NEW! Ministry Team Matching Grant
Students who participate in CanIL Launch (ReLaunch) (link) and are in a MALT or MA LING degree program, or a Training Track are eligible to receive additional financial aid through the Ministry Team Matching Grant program.

Eligibility
Students enrolled in CanIL Launch (ReLaunch) (link) and who are MA LING, and MALT degree students enrolled full-time each semester (min. 9 semester hours) for a full academic year may qualify. Training Track students must be enrolled full-time through to the completion of their program.
To be eligible for the Ministry Team Matching Grant program (new as of Fall 2020), students must also be:
- members of a Bible translation organization;
- currently on ministry support; and
- either home or at CanIL from a previous field assignment for the purpose of further education.
The purpose of the Ministry Team Matching Grant is to assist eligible students with the extraordinary costs of pursuing further education relative to their role in the global Bible Translation movement.
Amount per Award
1. Up to $4,000 for the first academic year on a 1:1 matching basis (a maximum of $2,000 from the student’s ministry team) and up to $8,000 for the second academic year on a 3:1 matching basis (maximum of $2,000 from the student’s ministry team ).
2. For Training Track students, up to $2,000 on a one-time 1:1 matching basis (a maximum of $1,000 from the student’s ministry team).
Note: Funds received from the student’s ministry team must be over and above their current support. Regular donations may not be redirected to CanIL for the purpose of this program.
