Summer Housing

Nothing compares to life in a TWU dorm. Where else can you wake up five minutes before class and still be on time, or walk out your front door and instantly find friends to join you in a game of ping-pong, volleyball or studying! Summer@CanIL students and staff are encouraged to live on the TWU campus to partipicate in the unique community that the summer program offers.

There is a cafeteria on campus and cooking facilities in the dorms. Students can choose to purchase food in the cafeteria and/or prepare their own meals. An average cafeteria lunch costs about $8-10 including drink. Supermarkets are a 10-15 minute drive away. Students usually form cooking groups to keep costs down, and to have a great time getting to know one another.

If you are coming to CanIL as a family with children, please notify us ASAP as we are looking into different possibilities to facilitate family housing arrangements and costs.

In order to facilitate reservation of adequate accommodation with TWU housing, a $100 housing deposit is required as soon as possible to reserve your dorm room space. This deposit is refundable if you cancel by April 30.

On-campus room for Summer (tentative rates based on 2016)

Includes taxes, high-speed internet, utilities, CanIL kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies, easy access to classrooms, weight-room, gym, laundry, etc. not to mention community!

Shared dorm room (for single students) = $1170
One-bedroom apartment (for married couples and couples with a small child) = $3100
Two-bedroom apartment (for families) = $4400

Housing details for dormitory rooms and apartments

Blankets, sheets, towels and pillow

If you are driving here, we ask that you bring along your own pillow, linens, towels and blankets.
If you are not driving here, CanIL has a supply of these things that are loaned for the duration of summer.

CanIL provides:

  • small electric fans for the duration of the summer
  • hangers for the closets
  • cleaning supplies
  • laundry detergent

Dormitory room

Furniture:

  • built in beds, desk, bookshelves
  • full length mirror
  • dresser units
  • closet

Washroom/Bathroom

  • We divide the dorm into two wings – a male wing and a female wing.
  • Each wing has its own communal bathroom with showers, toilets, sinks and cubby spaces for each person’s toiletries.

Kitchen/cooking appliances and utensils/refrigerator/dishes

  • Each wing has a small kitchenette with
    • a lounge with couches,
    • a refrigerator,
    • a microwave
    • a sink and
    • storage cupboards
  • In addition to the wing kitchenettes, we have a very large communal kitchen and eating area that has:
    • tables and chairs, and couches
    • 5 stoves and ovens, microwave ovens
    • 2 refrigerators
    • 1 dishwasher
    • 2 sink areas
  • CanIL supplies the kitchen area with:
    • Pots and pans, griddles, toasters, coffee makers
    • Mixing bowls, ladles, mixing spoons, measuring cups, cutting boards, mixers
    • Plates, mugs, cups, bowls, cutlery/silverware
    • Plastic storage containers, dishtowels, washcloths
    • Dishwashing soap and cleaning tools
  • Dorm residents use one of the TWU group laundry areas. CanIL supplies laundry detergent. An ironing board and iron are also supplied.

Apartments

Apartments space is divided into:

  • bathroom with sink, toilet, bathtub/shower
  • utility closet
  • bedroom (with two beds, two desks, two bookshelves, two dressers, one closet with space for the belongings of two people)
    • 2 bedroom apartments, of course have 2 bedrooms
  • kitchenette with sink, stove/oven, sink, cupboards, refrigerator, microwave
  • combined living/dining room with a couch, table and chairs

CanIL supplies the kitchen area with:

  • Pots and pans, griddles, toasters, coffee makers
  • Mixing bowls, ladles, mixing spoons, measuring cups, cutting boards, mixers
  • Plates, mugs, cups, bowls, cutlery/silverware
  • Plastic storage containers, dishtowels, washcloths

Apartment dwellers share a communal laundry where there is a washer, dryer, ironing board and iron.
