Governance and oversight
CanIL is a registered Canadian charity, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who provide strategic direction, financial oversight, and accountability for the mission.

Scott Remple
Board Chair
A member of Wycliffe USA who has served in a range of roles at the International Linguistic Center in Dallas and on the field in Togo, the Philippines, and across Southeast Asia (his focus since 2002). He serves as personnel director for SE Asia and, since 2009, as Asia Area recruiter, mobilizing people into Bible translation work across the region.

Christi Phillips
Board Vice-Chair
A CanIL alum who has worked in recruitment and administration with a translation and literacy organization since 2013. Her earlier experience includes coordinating an adult education and literacy program and teaching ESL. She holds a BA in Intercultural Studies from Crossroads College and a Master's in Applied Linguistics & Exegesis from Trinity Western University.

Ruth Heeg
Board Member
A Wycliffe member since 1974 who spent 11 years in the Algonquin community of Pikogan, Quebec, coordinating the Algonquin New Testament (published by the Canadian Bible Society in 1998). She later joined the Canadian Bible Society's Translations Department, working full-time from 2007–2016 as a translation consultant on Canadian First Nations language projects and editing text for publication.

Gyoojun Lee
Board Member
A CanIL graduate (Master of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis) who also holds an M.Div.-equivalent from ChongShin Theological Seminary in Seoul. He has served with Wycliffe Canada since 2005 as a missions mobilizer, working primarily with Korean-Canadian communities, and brings pastoral experience in both Canada and Korea.

Lindsey Schacter
Board Member
Chief Operating Officer at Global Aid Network (GAiN) Canada, where she has been a team member since 2009, leading operations and facilitating cross-cultural teams. She holds a BSc from the University of Calgary and served two years in Panama with Campus Crusade for Christ. She is a certified Birkman Consultant and a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Emerging Leaders program.

Daniel Genest
Board Member
A seasoned fundraiser with over a decade in the non-profit sector and a deep grounding in the Canadian philanthropic landscape. He holds a BA Honours in Linguistics from Concordia, a Master of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis from CanIL, and a Graduate Diploma in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership from Carleton. He is a Certified Fundraising Executive and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Ron Wilms
Board Member
A designated accountant with 25 years in the charity and non-profit sector, including twelve years in the finance office at Trinity Western University and a decade in executive and director roles in seniors' healthcare and housing. He currently serves as Director of Finance at Mennonite Benevolent Society (Menno Place) in Abbotsford. His degrees include a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Saskatchewan) and an MA in Leadership (TWU).

George Folz
Board Member
His involvement with Bible translation began with a Wycliffe term in Papua New Guinea in 1984, and his CanIL connection spans 16 years on the board, including the CanIL Building Project Team at TWU and co-founding the CanIL Training Ride for student scholarships. He brought a 32-year career in engineering and manufacturing (heavy industrial steelwork) to the board, and now works on global mission projects, including supporting coffee farmers in Myanmar.

Chris Prefontaine
Board Member
CEO and Co-Owner of Fratello Coffee Roasters, a vertically integrated specialty coffee company he has led for over three decades, and co-founder of multiple ventures including Analog Coffee and Slayer Espresso. He brings strong experience in governance, financial stewardship, and organizational leadership, currently serving as Deacon and incoming Board Chair at Bethany Chapel in Calgary, where he has overseen policy renewal, major capital projects, and long-term strategic planning.
