Andy Faust

Instructor

Since the Fall 2024 term Andy has been the instructor for the introductory course in sociolinguistics at CanIL. He considers it a privilege to help train others to serve language communities worldwide.
After a decade in the field of English language teaching, Andy joined Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada in 1999. His first  assignment was in the country of Uzbekistan, where for two years he helped develop an English learner’s dictionary. While there he met his wife Mary Ellen and they married in 2001. Andy began studies at CanIL in 2003, graduating from Trinity Western University in 2006 with a Master's of Applied Linguistics and Exegesis. With his wife and two young children Andy then moved to Russia and the following year to Kyrgyzstan to serve in a Scripture translation project that was already in progress. That team published a full Bible in 2016. Andy was subsequently part of another translation project in Central Asia, while also being involved with communications related to work in that region and in the Russian Federation. Since 2009 Andy has lived in the Vancouver area.
Andy's favourite recreational activity is pickleball, both for the physical movement and the diversity of people he meets there. He also enjoys trying to guess the languages that he overhears while grocery shopping without making it obvious that he's eavesdropping!
