Review Financial Aid Requirements

Seminaries has established a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree program and, in partnership with Canada Institute of Linguistics, is now offering an additional area of study: Bible Translation. The DMin degree provides mentored reflection on God and the scriptures as the foundation of ministry. It helps build character and spiritual health among ministry leaders and enables the candidate to apply training within the global Bible Translation ministry context. Candidates will consider “the advanced practice of ministry” with other senior ministry leaders under the supervision and mentorship of faculty members who all have significant experience in ministry.

Doctor of Ministry (Bible Translation):

Prerequisites

ACTS Seminaries welcomes applicants who confess faith in Jesus, are members in or connected with a local church, and possess a desire for academic and spiritual growth within the ACTS Seminaries community. A Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree from an accredited university or college is the standard academic prerequisite, along with at least three years of ministry experience. Master of Arts in Linguistics:

Prerequisites

Applicants do not need to have a prior Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. Instead, applicants need an academic foundation in key areas of applied linguistics covered by CanIL’s graduate program prerequisite courses: LING 210: Language & Society, LING 310: Articulatory Phonetics, LING 330: Phonological Analysis, and LING 360: Morphosyntax I (see prereq course list below for details and sample syllabi). Most applicants take these courses at CanIL during the summer, prior to the start of a Master of Arts degree with CanIL. Applicants with a previous academic background in linguistics may request a waiver on one or more of these prerequisites. Contact inquiry@canil.ca for more information.

*Applicants should also have 6 semester hours of a foreign language (Biblical Greek and Hebrew are accepted). If the applicant does not meet this requirement, they can take courses in a foreign language concurrent with their graduate studies, but this does not count toward the total semester hours needed to complete the degree.. Masters Degree

*Before beginning a Master’s degree at CanIL, students must have four (4) specific prerequisite courses in Linguistics. Regardless of whether your undergraduate degree was in Linguistics or another discipline, it’s likely you will need to complete some (or all) of these four courses before beginning a Master’s program at CanIL. It is very important that you check to see if you need to complete these prerequisites. Please email us at inquiry@canil.ca to ask about which prerequisites you need before starting a graduate program. Our Summer@CanIL program is designed to help you take these courses! Most of our students take their prerequisites simultaneously during the Summer and then start their Master’s degrees in the Fall.

Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Applied Linguistics:

Prerequisites

It is recommended that students taking this degree program focus primarily on their core requirements for the first two years (approximately 80 semester hours of general programs, see the current TWU Academic calendar for specific course selections). Linguistics students then have the option to attend the CanIL 9 week summer session, which offers the foundational Linguistics courses required for further training, or to complete these courses in the Fall semester. Linguistics degree students who have taken these foundational courses are best prepared to focus on their upper level Linguistics courses. LEARN MORE...
